Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.
Reflections and Artifacts
My first artifact is a brochure I created for an iC3 course I taught in my former school district through Pearl River Community College. The iC3 certification serves as a perfect building block for teachers to master their skills in the technology field. The iC3 certification has three parts. The first is Computer Fundamentals, then Key Applications, and finally Living Online. I believe the iC3 certification to be one of the more difficult, but definitely one that meets this standard by pushing teachers to improve their technology skills. My second artifact is another tutorial I created for Yammer. Just the similarity to Facebook makes this a fantastic tool for the classroom. In this case, the Microsoft Translator for Yammer would allow groups to be created that cross over language barriers. This would help my teachers to meet the goal of participating in a global learning community. Students and teachers have the ability to collaborate and communicate despite language barriers. While real time translation over video conferencing is right around the corner, this is the next best thing and opens up a myriad of doors and possibilities in the classroom. As my third artifact I chose LinkedIn, which I first discovered in one of my classes with Dr. Yuen. LinkedIn has been one of my most useful tools in keeping myself abreast of new instructional technology and trends in my field. LinkedIn allows a glimpse into what other leaders in the technology field are doing, and I can truly say that it keeps you on your toes when it comes to evaluating yourself against your peers. I believe that in its own way it meets every standard. It allows communication and collaboration with other professionals throughout the world. It allows the user to contribute materials to a larger group, creating a global group of leaders with a singular purpose through its many groups. The news posted by others allows the user to evaluate and reflect and keep abreast of the latest tools for student learning. Through all of these features it also will make teachers and technology professionals more effective, and push them to incorporate what they see from others to revitalize their classrooms and bring in new and different ideas from the global community.

Future Learning Goals
I will encourage my teachers to join professional organizations and attend professional conferences and educational opportunities to continue their education and to stimulate creativity and curiosity in their students in an ever changing digital society. I would like to use the tools I have discovered through my studies to improve communication between my department and our teachers. I hope that my continued research will help to make their lives easier and make them more effective teachers. Technology can be a source of excitement for teachers and students and that excitement needs to be harnessed and utilized to improve student achievement and keep our teachers excited about the learning process.
